2. Purpose
This notice governs the use of the website hmilibrary.com and its associated services. HMI Library is an online service (SaaS) for engineers who design operator screens, consisting of:
- a Symbol Builder to create HMI and P&ID symbols in the browser;
- a community library where users publish their own symbols under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence (CC BY 4.0), and a forum for questions and answers;
- an official library of generic HMI iconography (arrows, indicators, alarm and state badges, instrument bubbles, connection lines, navigation icons) designed following ISA-101 / ISA-5.1 and, where applicable, ISO 7010.
Symbols are downloadable as PNG and SVG for use in HMI / SCADA systems. Downloads are subject to the monthly quota of each plan (Free: 5 downloads a month; Starter and Studio: larger or unlimited quotas), as described in the Terms of Service.
3. Conditions of use
Access to this website is free, except for the user's own telecommunications connection cost. The Free plan includes the Symbol Builder, publishing to the community library, the forum and 5 downloads a month. Paid plans (Starter, Studio, Enterprise) are available after subscribing and increase the download quota and features.
The user agrees to:
- Use the services lawfully, in accordance with applicable regulations, the Terms of Service and the Community Guidelines.
- Not perform activities that damage, disable or overload the site's infrastructure, and not circumvent download quotas, watermarks or access controls.
- Not use the official icon library to create a competing service (redistributing the library as a collection). Commercial use of official icons within your own or your clients' HMI projects is permitted on paid plans.
- Only publish content you have the rights to, and credit the creator when using community symbols, as CC BY 4.0 requires.
4. Intellectual property
The website, its source code, brand, design and the official icon library are owned by HMI Library (Pau Serrano García) or its licensors and are protected by Spanish and international intellectual property law.
Community symbols remain the property of their creators. By publishing them on HMI Library, creators license them to everyone under CC BY 4.0: anyone may use, adapt and redistribute them, including commercially, provided the creator is credited. Symbols saved in the Symbol Builder but not published are private and are not licensed to anyone.
Official icons downloaded on a paid plan include a commercial licence to use them within the subscriber's projects (the subscriber's or their end clients') that does not end when the subscription ends; downloads on the Free plan are licensed for evaluation only. Redistribution, resale or inclusion of the official library in third-party libraries is not permitted without a prior OEM agreement. The detailed terms are in Sections 8 and 9 of the Terms of Service.
The ISA-101.01 and ISA-5.1 standards are property of the International Society of Automation (ISA); ISO 7010 is property of ISO and ASME Y32.11 of ASME. HMI Library is not affiliated with any of them — the standards are referenced descriptively to indicate the conventions applied in the icons and in the automatic check run on published symbols.
5. Limitation of liability
The official icons are designed in accordance with industry standards, and community symbols are published by their authors and checked automatically, but neither replaces the professional judgement of the control engineer. Final responsibility for the safe design and operation of the HMI/SCADA system rests with the integrator or end user.
HMI Library is not liable for direct or indirect damages arising from use of downloaded official icons or community symbols, within the limits permitted by applicable law. Content published by users is their responsibility; HMI Library acts on takedown requests and reports as described in the Terms of Service.
6. Privacy and cookies
The processing of personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy. The use of cookies is governed by our Cookie Policy.
7. Changes
HMI Library reserves the right to modify the content of this legal notice at any time. Changes will be published on this page with the update date.
8. Governing law and jurisdiction
This legal notice is governed by Spanish law. For any dispute arising from use of the website, the parties submit to the courts of the consumer's domicile where applicable, or otherwise to those of the owner's domicile.
