The free online HMI symbol builder
Compose your own HMI and P&ID symbols in the browser: shapes, ISA-5.1 instrument bubbles, the calm ISA-101 palette, PNG and SVG export.
Start from shape primitives, the official HMI icon set, or a symbol someone else has already published — recolor it, group it, and export it. No CAD, no install. Publish yours under CC BY 4.0 if you want to; a remix always keeps a credit to the original author.
What you build with
Everything follows ISA-101 / ISA-5.1 — color is reserved for alarms and states, exactly as an operator screen should be.
Shape primitives
Rectangles, circles, ellipses, triangles, polygons, stars, arrows, lines and text — the geometric building blocks of any P&ID or HMI symbol, with the ISA-101 palette one click away.
ISA-5.1 elements
Instrument bubbles (field, DCS, PLC, shared), process / electrical / signal connection lines, logic diamonds and flow arrows.
Official icons + community symbols as stamps
Drop in arrows, indicators, signal marks, alarm and state badges from the official icon library, or open any published community symbol — a motor, a valve, a tank — and build on it. Remixes keep a credit to the original author.
How it works
From idea to importable symbol in three steps.
Open the builder
No download, no signup. It opens instantly in your browser and keeps working offline once loaded.
Compose & style
Add shapes, icons or a community symbol, move / resize / rotate, recolor with the ISA palette, group and arrange in layers.
Export, save or publish
Download PNG or SVG, copy the markup, save a template, share a link — or publish it to the community library under CC BY 4.0 so the next engineer does not redraw it.
Built for HMI & SCADA engineers
A real editor in the browser — not a clip-art picker.
ISA-101 calm palette
Gray operating screen, color only for alarms and running states — production-ready, not decorative.
Vendor-neutral export
PNG (256×128 / 512×256 transparent) and scalable SVG for Weintek, WinCC, FactoryTalk, Ignition, Citect and AVEVA.
Snap, layers & undo
Snap-to-grid, alignment, grouping, z-order, flip and full undo/redo.
Save, share & publish
Named templates in your browser, cloud save to your account, shareable build links, and one-click publishing under CC BY 4.0 with an automatic ISA-101 check (palette, stroke, structure).
Four languages
The editor follows the site language: English, Spanish, Portuguese and French.
Free to start
Build and preview with no account. A free account gives 5 clean downloads a month; publishing your own symbols makes exporting them free. Starter (50/month) and Studio (unlimited) are there when you need more.
Frequently asked questions
Is the symbol builder free?
Yes — building and previewing is free and needs no account. Downloading clean PNG/SVG uses a free account with 5 downloads a month. If you publish your symbol under CC BY 4.0, exporting your own published symbols is free and unlimited. Starter (5 €/month) gives 50 downloads a month, Studio (19.99 €/month) unlimited — see pricing.
Do I need an account?
Not to build. You can compose, recolor and preview without signing up. A free account is needed to download files, save symbols to the cloud and publish them to the community library.
What formats can I export?
Transparent (or HMI-gray / white) PNG and scalable SVG — ready for Weintek EasyBuilder, Siemens WinCC, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Ignition and other HMI/SCADA tools.
Which standards does it follow?
The ISA-101.01 calm palette and ISA-5.1 instrumentation conventions. The official icon stamps follow ISO 7010 for safety pictograms and ASME Y32.11 / BS 1646 for P&ID geometry, and every symbol published to the community gets an automatic ISA-101 check.
Where do I find motor, valve, pump or tank symbols?
Equipment symbols come from the community: engineers draw them in this builder and publish them under CC BY 4.0. Browse them in Explore (filter by motors, valves, pumps, tanks, process…), open any of them here to adapt it, or draw your own from shapes and the official icon stamps. The official library itself is generic HMI iconography — arrows, indicators, alarm and state badges, instrument bubbles, connection lines, navigation icons — not equipment drawings.
Can I reuse and share my symbols?
Yes — save any composition as a named template in your browser or in your account, copy a share link, or publish it to the community library under CC BY 4.0 so anyone can download it with attribution. You can also open a published symbol and build on it; the platform links your remix to the original. The community guidelines explain what to publish.
